Endometriosis Film Festival Linz/Vienna/Graz/Innsbruck
An initiative by Ranya Schauenstein in cooperation with statewide endometriosis organizations and local support groups.
Five years after the premiere of *nicht die regel” , the documentary returns to theaters—and there’s more! To mark the anniversary, director Ranya Schauenstein is organizing the first Austrian Endometriosis Film Festival. The program includes the documentary as well as the artistic short film “Hysterical Sisters” (Chiara Schreder, 2021), which is also celebrating its anniversary. “Endometriosis has gained a lot of awareness over the past five years, but many aspects related to the condition remain hidden. On this evening, we want to explore these perspectives,” says Ranya Schauenstein.
In addition to the two disease-awareness films, the chronic condition endometriosis is examined not only from a medical perspective but also from the perspectives of labor and social law. Experts will discuss this topic during a panel discussion in Vienna and Linz following the film. The two filmmakers and team members also discuss the background of their films and the use of film as a medium for conveying medical knowledge.
The events will be held in German; in Vienna, the documentary will be shown with English subtitles.

About Hysterical Sisters:
“Hysterical Sisters” is an artistic short film by Austrian director Chiara Schreder that raises awareness about adenomyosis and endometriosis. Through a fusion of dance, music, and spoken word, the film gives voice to the physical and emotional struggles of millions of people affected by these conditions. The personified “hysterical sisters” symbolize chronic pain, isolation, and societal prejudices. On an abstract, symbolic level, the film makes the effects of these conditions tangible through its poetic visual language.
